What do you actually do at BG?
On my business card it says I’m ‘Creative’, which mainly includes copywriting and directing the odd TVC. What I ‘actually’ do is a completely different story.
What is your favourite film of all time and why?
I saw an Irish movie called ‘Once’ a little while ago and got really hooked on it. Any movie with music as the central theme always gets me – Walk the Line, School of Rock, Moulin Rouge…La Bamba.
Best song of all time?
I’ve settled on Flame Trees by Cold Chisel. The story in the lyrics is so familiar…“Ah, who needs that sentimental bullsh*t anyway.”
Rock music or dance music?
Are you kidding me? When I was a teenager, I spent way too many awkward nights at nightclubs trying to impress the girls on the dance floor. That dance music only brings back painful memories. It wasn’t the unimpressed girls that hurt the most – it was realizing that I really was a bogan. And we all know that bogans don’t dance or listen to dance music. So it’s been AC/DC, Cold Chisel and Jimmy Barnes ever since. Rock on!
Tell us about your 'other job' as a singer.
Let's use the word 'singer' very loosely here. It's funny, I get together with a few friends, have a few beers, play a bit of music and go home with some extra cash. I almost feel guilty. But yeah, I've been playing in a band since high school, and I just haven't been able to shake the habit. Too much fun.
Why do you think BG brands work so effectively?
I think consumers just appreciate some straight forward information from a trusted third party. Consumers can trust the information and it’s source, and they don’t have to filter through all the fluff to get what they want.
If you could be stuck in a lift with three people, who would you choose?
Billy Connolly - the funniest man alive.
My lovely wife Fiona - she is an absolute classic.
And finally, a guy who knows how to fix lifts that get stuck.
Finish this sentence: BG is...
Global! BAM!
